2 PhD positions available at the University of Oslo – higher education governance and innovation & learning

uio logo nyDepartment of Education at the Faculty of Educational Sciences in the University of Oslo has announced a call for two doctoral research fellowships in the research group ExCID (Expert Cultures and Institutional Dynamics: Studies in higher education and work).

ExCID was formed in 2015 and is a result of a merger of earlier research groups HEIK and FALK at the University of Oslo. The main analytical approaches used in ExCID projects are an institutional perspective on political governance and organizational dynamics, and a cultural perspective on how knowledge and participation possibilities are organized within and among fields of expertise.

The first position is for a candidate specializing in the research field innovation and learning. Within the overall research focus of the ExCID group the candidate’s research project is expected to be targeted on relationships between organizational learning and innovativeness, or alternatively, the research project can be focused on the relationship between learning within working life and change processes in organizations (organizational innovation) or in society (social innovation).

Concerning the second position we are looking for a candidate specializing in the governance of higher education. Relevant project themes are the national and supranational coordination of knowledge policies; agencification in the governance of higher education; and the changing role and use of expertise in the governance of higher education.

The positions are fully funded contracts of 4 years (including 25% requied duties for the department, often including teaching activities).




Call for applicants: post-doctoral position with focus on academic work at the UNIKE project

unikeA call for an individual post-doctoral position with the UNIKE project has been announced. The position is a 17-month engagement as a post-doctoral engagement at the Department of Education of Aarhus University in Denmark (Copenhagen Campus).The successful candidate will be working with Professor Susan Wright.

The position is funded under a European Commission, Initial Training Network Marie Curie award. The broader project in which the post is located is Universities in Knowledge Economies (UNIKE), which examines the changing roles and scope of universities in emerging global knowledge economies and regions.

The post-doctoral fellow’s own contribution to the UNIKE project will be a research project concerning the changing conditions of academic work and career development. This project could consider changes across generations and difference by gender, and can approach this issue from any theoretical perspective. In terms of regional focus, the project could consider the impact on, and new opportunities for, academic work, careers, and professional practices posed by the creation of a European Higher Education and Research Area; or it could make comparisons between these changing conditions in selected countries in the European Higher Education and Research Area and the Asia-Pacific Rim. The fellow’s research project can focus on any aspect of this topic from new forms of governance and institutionalisation to new modes of knowledge production, changing employment patterns and expectations about academic mobility, networking, partnerships, research productivity and impact, and teaching and quality assurance – or how these combine in a restructuring of career paths and the academic profession.

Vacancy: Two post-doc positions: “Knowledge and Africa” project and higher education studies in Africa at BIGSAS

bigsasThe Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies(BIGSAS) that is funded by the German Research Foundation within the Excellence Initiative, offers two post-doctoral fellowship positions for the period of two years starting 1 November 2015.

BIGSAS does research on three main areas:

A Uncertainty, Innovation and Competing Orders in Africa
B Knowledge, Communication and Communities in Motion
C Negotiating Change: Discourses, Politics and Practices of Development

The Post-doctoral fellow is expected to develop an innovative, independent and interdisciplinary research project in the field of African Studies and submit a full proposal for research funding within the two years.

One position is offered for a research project on “Knowledge and Africa”. The other position is offered for a project in the area of higher education research on/in Africa.

– Demonstrated ability to relate to senior university leaders
